Growing up on the island of Caye Caulker, from a young age I’ve understood the sea, been in the sea, worked on the sea, loved the sea. I come from a family of fishermen and divers. I always knew when I got where I wanted to be in life it would be grounded in my family roots.
9 years ago I was working with a local snorkeling shop and met a traveler doing a workshop teaching the craft of making jewelry from the fins and spines of invasive Lionfish. I was enthralled immediately.
And so began our journey…
In 2015, when I was 25 years young and the mother of a young boy, I learned about a project that offered me and other women the opportunity to venture into the world of business and tourism. I received a grant of $3000 and immediately began circling the island on my bike, just looking for a beginning. Low and behold I passed a little house that I bought the same day, and which gave life to my shop. While others dreamed of owning a gift shop, I always knew I wanted to have adventures to go with my souvenirs. Eventually even to expand to offering accommodations for volunteers, or guests from abroad.
